2022 Acura NSX Type S Second Generation Revealed – After this year, the Acura NSX will be discontinued. The NSX Type S, a boisterous, 600-horsepower goodbye to the Japanese supercar, will be the sole NSX available in 2022, but in a blink of an eye, it was gone. Acura confirmed that the supercar is completely sold out in the United States. The story was initially reported by Motor1 on Friday.
In 2022, Acura will introduce a new Type S variation of the legendary NSX mid-engine sports vehicle as a farewell to the second generation. The Type S had its public premiere at Monterey Car Week. There will only be 350 Type S NSXs made in the world in 2022, and 300 of them will be sold in the US. They’re available for purchase right now.
There will also be no more second-generation NSXs, which debuted for the 2017 model year and in 2017. Although Acura CEO Jon Ikeda states in the Type S press release that “we’re actively studying what the next gen of sports cars should be in the impending electrified era,” it appears that there will not be an immediate successor.
2022 Acura NSX Type S Features
With the new air suspension, you may customize your ride to fit all of your driving requirements. The Dynamic Air Suspension can lower the ride height in Sport mode or raise it in Lift mode for more ground clearance. This makes it much easier to load & unload the car and makes it more comfortable to drive.
The Type S is still as smooth and driver-focused as ever, and it’s even better now. The interior, which has Ultrasuede®-trimmed seats and a flat-bottom sport steering wheel, has an athletic and purpose-built feel. Choose Orchid leather, which is unique to Type S, to create a boutique-like interior that satisfies the senses in ways that performance alone cannot.
2022 Acura NSX Type S Exterior Design
The redesigned nose is the first feature you’ll notice. The Type S receives larger, more angular air intakes and a larger front grille, which allows for more air to be sent to the radiators. A new, more giant diffuser constructed of carbon fiber has been installed in the back.
According to Acura, the wing was inspired by the NSX GT3 Evo race car. The aero kit improves airflow around the automobile and increases total downforce. The Type S is equipped with custom forged five-spoke wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires (which were also manufactured specifically for the car), which improve the front and rear track by 0.4 and 0.8 inches, respectively. There’s also a matte grey paint option particular to the Type S, as well as a standard carbon-fiber roof that lowers the car’s total center of gravity.
2022 Acura NSX Type S Engine
The NSX Type S’ 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 uses intercoolers from the NSX GT3 Evo and new injectors to improve fuel efficiency. Compared to conventional snails, the new snails provide a 5.6 percent raise. The result is 520 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, up 20 horsepower and 37 pound-feet over the essential car’s engine.
When the three electric motors in the car are combined, the overall output is an even 600 horsepower and 492 pound-feet of torque. Acura also decreased the gear ratio for the front axle’s dual motors by 20%, allowing for higher torque delivery off the line. According to the firm, the 0-60 time is less than 3.0 seconds.
The Type S’s standard nine-speed dual-clutch transmission has been retuned to deliver even faster changes. Acura has a unique “Rapid Downshift Mode” mechanism that allows drivers to skip multiple gears at once by holding down the downshift paddle. The adjustable suspension technology has been tweaked for better on-track performance as well.
2022 Acura NSX Type S Price
The Type S starts at $171,495 and is $12,000 higher than the NSX from last year. However, a formerly optional carbon-fiber roof is now standard on the Type S. $13,000 Lightweight package is the most expensive option for the Type S, which reduces 58 pounds using carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon-fiber engine covers, and interior trim.
That’s also a $3700 savings over the price of those parts as stand-alone options.
Type S is easily distinguished by its sharper, more angular characteristics on the front and rear end. Matte gray paint is also now available. For an additional $6000, you may purchase the so-called Gotham Gray, which is restricted to 70 vehicles.
