The striking appearance of the 2023 Kia Sportage sets it apart from the crowd of compact crossovers. The Kia has an unusual appearance with alien-like headlights and a distinctive grille design.
Its bolder exterior is also dimensionally larger than previously, allowing additional cargo space and a more spacious interior. The new Sportage is stylish on the inside and loaded with technology, including a vast dash-mounted screen.
A 187-hp four-cylinder engine or a 226-hp hybrid powertrain, both with front- or all-wheel drive, provide motivation. The 2023 Sportage will have to demonstrate that it has more to offer than simply a wild-looking exterior against market stalwarts like the Mazda CX-5 and updated competitors like the new Honda CR-V.
2023 Kia Sportage Redesign
Because of its long body, the new Sportage has a sharper face and a roomier interior. With front-wheel drive, a 226-hp hybrid variant aims for 39 mpg. The cabin on top versions may be configured with twin 12.3-inch displays underneath a single pane of glass for one futuristic cockpit rare in the compact crossover class, thanks to two new off-road inspired trim options.
Kia took the new Sportage’s grille and added vertical DRLs that curve from the bumper to the side. Kia smoothed down the hood creases to the borders, and black paneling extends from the wheel arches to the rear rockers.
Above a large black panel & wide rear bumper, LED taillights form a single light bar that spans the tailgate. A clean, smart profile that seems more Subaru than the adventurous and joyful Hyundai Tucson is created by a body line that kicks up at the back to the tapered roofline for a smooth, smart profile.
The Sportage’s major modifications come in the shape of a roomier interior, as it sits between the Kia Seltos tiny crossover and the Kia Sorento three-row SUV. It ups the ante on Hyundai’s origami appearance of the Tucson by offering a 25-inch panoramic glass display across the dash as an option.
Angled vertical vents frame the window, emphasizing the cabin’s focal point. The dash is completed below it by a small panel of haptic temperature controls flanked by temperature knobs. The console is rounded out by a gear lever and drive mode selection, as well as a touchpad for temperature control & infotainment settings that give us pause—at least until we try it out.
2023 Kia Sportage Engine
The Sportage’s standard engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and an eight-speed automated transmission. The hybrid version combines a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a single electric motor to produce 226 horsepower.
Front- or all-wheel drive can be used with either powerplant. The Sportage is built on a platform with a wider wheelbase, which the company claims would improve driving dynamics and minimize noise and vibration.
The advent of rugged-looking trims like the X-Line gives the compact ute an off-road feel, but the X-Pro includes some off-road kit. It has several drive modes and rides on black 17-inch rims with all-terrain tires.
2023 Kia Sportage Fuel
Kia hasn’t revealed how fuel-efficient the Sportage will be in 2023. However, the hybrid is anticipated to be the most fuel-efficient. We’ll be able to assess its real-world mpg once we’ve tested it on our 75-mph fuel-economy road, which is part of our rigorous testing process.
