Will 2023 Dodge Durango be Replaced? – The current Dodge Durango has been on the market since 2011. It now has no platform companion because the Jeep Grand Cherokee, formerly twinned with the Durango, has migrated to Stellantis’ Giorgio platform with its most recent facelift. This time around, the Grand Cherokee also features a seven-seat Grand Cherokee L version, putting Durango’s long-term viability into doubt.
On the other hand, Durango is expected to sell 60,000 units in the United States this year. It implies that the Durango will most likely remain in production. Indeed, Mopar Insiders announced on Monday that a revamped Durango is on the way. Still, it will be paired with a body-on-frame Jeep Wagoneer rather than the unibody Grand Cherokee this time. It’s expected to arrive in late 2023, putting it in the 2024 model year.
According to Mopar Insiders, even with the nearby Detroit Assembly Complex facility producing Grand Cherokees, the Jefferson North Assembly plant near Detroit, Michigan, where the Durango & Grand Cherokee are made, is already failing to satisfy the demand for the Grand Cherokee.
The Durango and Cherokee have had a rivalry since they shared unibody architecture. Cherokees were always more popular, owing to their reputation as the high-performance vehicle. Since switching the Cherokees on a Stellantis Giorgio platform, Jeep has strengthened that confidence even more.
Even though Jeep has the more popular model, the Durango is expected to sell 60,000 vehicles in the United States alone this year. So, while the production of the Durango at its existing site will end, the Durango will not be phased out.
The Durango & Cherokee are being constructed in Detroit’s Jefferson North Assembly factory.
On the other hand, the Cherokee is in such high demand that the plant is having difficulties keeping up with the global output.
As a result, Durango’s manufacture has been relocated to Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan.
The Wagoneer & Grand Wagoneer are both made here. This decision makes sense because, like the Wagoneer, the Durango is ditching the unibody construction in favor of a body-on-frame architecture for 2023.
Durango’s towing capacity is one of its significant flaws; therefore, switching frames should help it significantly.
The current Durango towing capacity is 8,700 pounds, while the Wagoneer has a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.
If swapping frames allows Durango to achieve the same boost, it will undoubtedly help close the gap between it and its competitors.
We would expect to see an entirely new interior design with this overhaul. This would necessitate a brand-new dashboard design with more appealing aesthetics, higher-quality materials, and improved overall build quality.
Because the new model will be built on a BoF platform, we may expect a more durable dash design that draws heavily from the RAM 1500. There are numerous technological elements included, including a giant 12.0-inch touchscreen.
Regardless of the final form and size, we anticipate that the new model will maintain the same level of functionality as the previous type. Three rows of seats and a big cargo compartment would be the result.
The 2023 Dodge Durango is indeed a bit of a puzzle for exterior design. Of course, we expect it to be a large SUV with a boxy design and rugged exterior. The problem with this is that Dodge hasn’t released any new models in a long time, so we don’t know the brand’s current design language.
Of course, the front end is the most intriguing. While it’s difficult to speculate on specifics, we could envision a circumstance where the grille & headlights resemble those on the Ram 1500. The rest of the SUV, on the other hand, would have a traditional wagon design with plenty of interior space.
The next-generation Durango is projected to produce in late 2023, with a 2024 model year release date. With the unibody construction, the modern Dodge Durango has an MSRP of $35,472. We anticipate a price increase, but we do not yet have an official pricing range.
Moving to a body-on-frame construction could also assist with expenses since it would provide consumers with a more cheap F-segment truck and may help cut the total price of the Wagoneers’ architecture.
